Tick box showing 4 key leadership behavioursCEOs are beginning to realise how important leadership development is to the organisational health and growth of their business. The problem is, organisation’s looking to investment in leadership are often unsure of where to start. I recently came across a study that helps answer this question. The study, conducted by McKinsey&Company, suggests that there are four key leadership behaviours (out of a possible 20), that closely correlate with leadership success. The four key behaviours identified in those organisations with high quality leadership teams are:

  • Solve problems effectively –gather, analyse and consider information before making a decision but then make a decision in a timely manner.
  • Operate with a strong results orientation – lead by creating a vision and setting clear objectives. Then follow though to achieve the desired results
  • Seek different perspectives – utilise your team and their various knowledge, skills and experiences to make better-informed choices
  • Support others – be genuine and show a sincere interest in your people and their role in your organisation

By concentrating on improving these key leadership behaviours, you will be building the capability of your leaders and improving the engagement of your people. This can only translate into better business outcomes.
